Paris Photo Los Angeles returns to Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood from May 1 to 3. In its third edition this year, Paris Photo LA includes 70 galleries with works by 265 artists. Exhibitors come from 17 countries and also include 9 publishers and specialized art book dealers.
Paris Photo was created in 1996 and is held annually at the Grand Palais in Paris. The original version is the premiere international art fair of photography and is twice as large as in LA, with 143 galleries in 2014. The Los Angeles edition launched in 2013 with a broadened focus to include moving images. The fair in Paris had nearly 60,000 visitors in 2014, and Los Angeles had about 16,000.
The Paris fair is hosted under the glass roof of the Grand Palais, and the Los Angeles edition takes place on the backlot of Hollywood’s iconic Paramount Pictures Studios. Galleries set up inside soundstages and the studio’s movie set replicas of New York City. It’s Paris Photo, in (simulated) New York, in Los Angeles, and it’s a fantastic visitor experience.
Galeria Lume (São Paulo) will present Ladies Rooms Around the World by Maxi Cohen as one of 38 solo shows at the fair. The gallery also represents Betina Samaia, Kilian Glasner, and Claudio Edinger.
Sous Les Etoiles Gallery (New York) will show a selection of large-format works by Richard Caldicott, Jin-Ya Huang, Wolfram Ruoff, Barry Underwood, and David Zimmerman.
We also look forward to works by Andreas Gursky as Librarie 213 (Paris), Edward Burtynsky at Von Lintel Gallery (Los Angeles), and Diane Arbus at Aperture (New York).
