In Weston-super-Mare, England, an abandoned seaside resort has been transformed into a dystopian theme park. On August 20, following weeks of speculation, the artist Banksy announced a five-week contemporary art project called Dismaland Bemusement Park.
Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners has been selected to construct a new storage and conservation center for the Musée du Louvre. The new facilities will be located in Liévin, 200 kilometers north of Paris near the Louvre-Lens. The center is expected to open in 2018, and moving the collections will take until 2023.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation has announced that Moreau Kusunoki Architectes is the winner of the Guggenheim Helsinki Design Competition. The French architecture firm’s design, Art in the City, is proposed for a site at Eteläsatama on Helsinki’s South Harbor. The Finnish outpost would be the Guggenheim’s fifth museum, and its third in Europe, if it is constructed.

From June 9 through November 1, the Château de Versailles presents an exhibition of sculptural works by Anish Kapoor. It is the eighth exhibition of contemporary works at Versailles since 2008, and coincides with the tercentenary of the death of Louis XIV.

In 1971, Yoko Ono placed ads in the Village Voice and The New York Times announcing The Museum of Modern [F]art, her one-woman show at MoMA. The 100-page exhibition catalogue included an image of Yoko Ono in MoMA’s sculpture garden with a jar of flies, which were to be released into the city and then photographed as they buzzed across New York. We gave an overview of Paris Photo Los Angeles last week in anticipation of its third edition this weekend. The weather was characteristically perfect and the satellite edition of the Paris fair now seems established in LA. The feeds were full of Paris Photo Los Angeles for an entire week before early Instagrams began to appear from the Venice Biennale.
Paris Photo Los Angeles returns to Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood from May 1 to 3. In its third edition this year, Paris Photo LA includes 70 galleries with works by 265 artists. Exhibitors come from 17 countries and also include 9 publishers and specialized art book dealers.

The Centre Pompidou, France’s national museum of modern art, has opened a satellite location in Málaga, Spain. It is the museum’s first location outside of France, and it opened in the same week as an outpost of the State Russian Museum in Málaga. Together, the two satellite museums are expected to attract 400,000 visitors to the Andalusian city that has become established as a cultural destination.
About 400 private jets left from the Maastricht Aachen Airport this week after the close of The European Fine Art Fair, TEFAF Maastricht, which held its 28th edition from March 13 to March 22. With some 200 fairs and 100 biennials packed into the global art world calendar, TEFAF is established as the most prestigious of them all.
